Annual CLEANUP Event

Due to COVID-19 and related social distancing protocols, the April 2020 Straits Pond Cleanup event has been cancelled.  We encourage everyone to help maintain the beauty and health of the pond by collecting and disposing of trash while enjoying a walk or jog around the pond.  We hope to host the annual SPWA Cleanup in the spring of 2021 to coincide with Earth Day.

WANTED! Volunteers

REWARD: Free picnic* with Nona’s ice cream!

WHEN: Saturday, Near Earth Day each year from 10am – noon (rain or shine!)…April 25, 2020

Join other volunteers to help pick up all the winter-storm debris that now mars the shoreline, walks and green areas along Straits Pond.

A launching site will be set up at the park opposite Black Rock Beach (Atlantic Avenue at the foot of Summit Avenue). There is a kiosk, parking for two vehicles, a bench, and a path leading to the water.

There will be a dumpster on Atlantic Avenue in Hull, and a dump truck at the park across from Rocky Beach in Cohasset.

Trash bags will be provided. Work gloves, long pants and long sleeves are suggested.

Groups will also be clearing debris from Rocky Beach, ponds in Hingham, the Weir River Estuary Center and surrounding grounds, and Rockland Street from West Corner to George Washington Boulevard.

*The picnic will be held at high noon at the Basketball Court/Playground on Atlantic Avenue in Hull across from Straits Pond.

More than 60 residents, including the Baker family above, spent Earth Day 2019 with the Straits Pond Watershed Association annual clean-up crew!
