Straits Pond Watershed Association in partnership with the Weir River Watershed Association and the Weir River Estuary Park Committee will hold our annual Earth Day Cleanup on Saturday April 20, 2024. This will be a trash and debris collection effort focused on Black Rock Beach, and the margins of Straits Pond. It doesn’t stop there, our partners are picking up trash on the Weir River, Foundry Pond, the Weir River Marsh and the surrounding streets. The cleanup starts at 9 am and concludes with a picnic lunch in Hull at the park at 200 Atlantic Ave where SPWA will serve grilled burgers and dogs (meat or veggie) with all the fixins. As always, dessert will be ice cream generously donated by Nona’s.
All SPWA members are invited to help. The general public is also welcome to participate (and come to the picnic) to learn more about SPWA and the watershed we all live in. There is no signup sheet, just show up at Wadleigh Park at the junction of Atlantic Ave (Hull), Forest Ave, and Jerusalem Rd or at 105 Atlanic Ave. SPWA will have information tables there where you can sign in and join SPWA if you are not already a member.
Be sure to dress for the weather including good boots and garden gloves. Some people bring rakes and or trash grabbers. We will provide trash bags. Your full bags can be left beside the road or taken to Wadleigh Park where Cohasset DPW has parked a truck to receive it. Bags can also be left at 105 Atlantic in Hull. We will be patrolling the streets with two pickup trucks to transport full trash bags to these sites for disposal.
