It’s getting cold and unless you have the Pond in your backyard you might not notice that there are still birds and other animals living out their lives around the Pond. These Yellow Legs are now on their way south but our resident Canada Geese and Swans are still here. Buffle Heads, an Eagle, Red Tailed Hawks and of course coyotes are are still paddling, soaring, and prowling around.

It can be hard to tell but life goes on under the surface as well. The plankton is gone so the clams, mussels, and other critters who feed on it are slowing their metabolisms and will endure the cold months living on their stored reserves of fat.
I know many of you attended our Straits Pond History display at the church. We estimated over 200 friends and neighbors congregated to learn and talk about our rich history. It was great to see how engaged people were and how many small discussion groups formed. We really enjoyed putting this together for you and were pleased that it proved to be so popular. Our apologies for the poor sound on the video but if you couldn’t hear or missed it altogether, you can view it on our website.

Our next scheduled events are the Earth Day pond, marsh, and beach cleanup in April and our annual meeting in June.
We are plotting our next show so stay tuned to the Straits Pond News. If you are not a subscriber, please join our community. If you would like to support us, well …. step right up.
